08th January 2012 - Arudhra Dharshan / Thiruvathirai Thiru Naal :
General Information:
The Arudra star in the Tamil month of Margazhi (Dec 15 – Jan 15) is Lord Shiva’s birthday. This year it is falls on 08th January 2012. It is believed to be the day when Lord Shiva’s energy is very close to the earth; hence it has been given the importance of being His birthday. He is worshipped in the cosmic dance form, making his power and heightened consciousness accessible to those who seek it.
Margazhi month is called Twilight in Heaven and it is the time to take a cue from the Sun while it is in Sagittarius, the period known as the time the Gods rest and rejuvenate. Arudra Darshan is the longest night of the year. After this, the days get longer and the nights get shorter.
This Cosmic Dance of Shiva is said to symbolize the five divine acts ("Pancha Krityas"): Creation, Protection, Destruction, Embodiment and Release.
Where it is Special:
Chidambaram is a temple in South India that holds the power of the dancing Shiva (Shiva in this form is called Lord Nataraja). This is a striking festival where meticulously performed Vedic rituals are offered to Lord Nataraja. These rituals are held in the pre-dawn hours, when the moon is still shining brightly. Also, this festival will be celebrated in all Nataraja Temples.
Why it is famous in Chidamparam and What is the Story behind this Auspicious Day:
Once when Mahaa Vishnu was lying down on the great serpent Adhi sesha, Adhi sesha felt Mahaa Vishnu was quite heavy that time. He asked Mahaa Vishnu what was the reason. Mahaa Vishnu said that he was remembering and enjoying the Dance of Lord Shiva. The answer developed the desire in Adhi sesha to see the Great Dance of Lord Shiva. He asked Mahaa Vishnu how his desire could be fulfilled. Mahaa Vishnu asked him to go to Chithamparam and do "tapas". (Meditation) Adhi sesha came to Chithamparam and prayed the Lord for a long time. There was another Saint and devotee of Lord Shiva in that place, called “Viyaagra Paadhar”. (வியாக்ர பாதர். பின்னாளில் இவரே புலிக்கால் முனிவர் என்று அழைக்க பட்டார்.)
He prayed to God to get the legs of tiger, so that he can pluck flowers early in the morning to offer to the God, before any bee touches the flower. He was also praying God to see His Great Dance for a long time. Pleased with their prayer the God appeared on the “Thiruvaadhirai” day and danced in Chithamparam. The Nataraaja image of the Lord is prayed with great devotion this day. In Chithamparam and other temples it is celebrated as Arudraa dharshanam. In this festival abhisheeka (holy anointing) of Lord Nataraaja takes place early in the morning (Pre-dawn) and then He comes around the town. A sweet called “Kali” (திருவாதிரை களி) and multi vegetable "Thalakam" are offered and eaten to celebrate this great joy of seeing the dance of the Lord.
What Science Saying:
"Modern physics has shown that the rhythm of creation and destruction is not only manifest in the turn of the seasons and in the birth and death of all living creatures, but is also the very essence of inorganic matter...For the modern physicists, Shiva's dance is the dance of subatomic matter...Hundreds of years ago, Indian artists created visual images of dancing Shivas in a beautiful series of bronzes. In our time, physicists have used the most advanced technology to portray the patterns of the cosmic dance. The metaphor of the cosmic dance thus unifies ancient mythology, religious art and modern physics."

editor.kadavuleh: This year "Arudra Dharshan" falls on Sunday 08th January 2012. Our Ancestors always have calculated everything in the basis of long term analysis for our benefit. Hence they have designed and built the Temples also accordingly.
To feel the vibration and to get the positive energy, we have to be in the Temple in the Pre-dawn hours on Thiruvathirai Day. Let us pray for Wisdom with Wealth for an individual and to the Country.
Those who are not able to go to the Temple pray silently wherever you are in.
Shivaya Namaha !!!
